Sant Surjit Singh (Delhi)

Sant Surjit Singh Ji was born into the home of Sant Sujan Singh Ji and Mata Kartar Kaur Ji on 5th of July 1930. He learnt Gurmat Sangeet from his father, after which he was sent to get more of classical training from Pandit Banwarilal, who was ‘Gurbhai’ of Sant Sujan Singh Ji (students of Pandit Narotam Das Ji of Multan).

When Baba Nand Singh Ji asked Sant Surjit Singh Ji, whose son are you? He replied with enthusiasm, “I am son of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. “. To which Babaji smiled and replied, “It is not yet time to become Guru Gobind Singh’s. Stay Guru Nanak’s son.” And to bring the bachan (words) to life, Sant Surjit Singh Ji always remained by the side of his father, Sant Sujan Singh Ji, as his accompanist. In almost all of the recordings of Sant Sujan Singh Ji, the side Harmonium/Tabla is accompanied by Sant Surjit Singh Ji.

In earlier years, Sant Sujan Singh Ji blessed him with the knowledge and understanding of Gurbani Concepts and giving references (Parmaan) from the Bani of other writers such as, Bhai Gurdas Ji, Bhai Nandlal Ji, etc. Thus, Gurbani and Parmaan became his forte. He was blessed by his father numerous times because of the fact that he had an extreme knowledge of Gurbani.

Sant Surjit Singh Ji left for his eternal abode on 11th of February 1992. Currently, Sant Surjit Singh Ji’s son, Sant Narain Parkash Singh and grandsons, Subhag Parkash Singh and Surjot Parkash Singh are continuing the legacy of Sant Sujan Singh Ji.
