Purshotam Das Jalota was the father of renowned Ghazal and Bhajan Singer, Anup Jalota. He was born on 9th September 1925 in Phagwara, Punjab. He learned Indian classical music under the guidance of Master Rattan of Sham Chaurasi Gharana. At the age of 24, he moved to Lucknow and started singing professionally and he was also awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2004. He passed away at the age of 85 on 18th January 2011.\u00a0<\/p>\n
