Bhai Subhag Singh Ji was born on the 1st of April 1955 in the village of Nadala in Kapurthala district of Punjab. He was a young boy when his father sent him to Gurdwara Sees Ganj Sahib to learn Kirtan from Prof. Partap Singh Ji who was serving as a Hazoori Raagi there at that time. Under his guidance, Bhai Subhag Singh Ji learned many Raags and old compositions which he still sings to this day. After some years, he went on to learn from ‘Taan Samrat’ Ustad Naseer Ahmad Khan from the Delhi Gharana of music. He spent 8 years under Khan Saab’s guidance and picked up the finer aspects of classical music.<\/p>\n
In 1981, Bhai Subhag Singh Ji made his first tour abroad by accompanying Bhai Ajit Singh Alankari on the side harmonium. They visited Afghanistan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia during this tour.\u00a0 He went back to India at the end of this tour before making another trip to Kuwait soon after and then to England. When he was in England, he got the opportunity to accompany Bhai Shamsher Singh Zakhmi on the side harmonium for some time. Bhai Subhag Singh Ji got married in England and settled there with his wife. They have one daughter, Inderjit Kaur and two sons, Gurbhag Singh and Akal Singh. For many years Bhai Subhag Singh Ji served the Sangat in England before moving back to India.<\/p>\n
He established the Guru Nanak Sangeet Ashram in Kashipur, Uttarakhand in 1995 and has been managing it for the past 25 years. He serves as a teacher in this Ashram and does not take any fees from children who can’t afford to pay. To date, he has taught approximately 500 children for free. Besides teaching, he is also a composer and music director who enjoys experimenting with different types of music such as Kumaoni, Arabic, Afghani, Western and more.\u00a0 If anyone has more recordings of Bhai Subhag Singh Ji to share, please contact us.<\/p>\n
